IT Security and Network Ports

Under the new GDPR regulations device owners are responsible for all data stored on their device and any breach that puts personal data at risk must be reported immediately to the University’s Data Protection Office. This comes at a time when malicious cyberattacks are on the rise. UCD IT Services have implemented an additional DNS firewall to protect UCD websites and more recently applied network protections in order to safeguard all devices connected to the UCD network. Staff members are advised to avail of the staff VPN to remotely administer servers from off campus.

UCD IT Services is working to raise awareness of the importance of keeping your UCD credentials safe and will be implementing a staff password policy in order to help protect University information by ensuring that each staff member has a strong password for their UCD account. Sophos Anti -Virus which is free for staff and students has been enhanced to provide more protection, new security controls are to be piloted and further features such as ransomware protection are in the pipeline. This is part of a larger programme of work which is set to protect the UCD network and University information while ensuring that anytime internet access for staff and students on or off campus is available as usual.
