Windows XP machines to be removed from campus network
Fri, 6 July 18
As previously communicated, Sophos no longer release anti-virus updates for Windows XP or 2003 devices since April 2018 and Microsoft removed support and stopped releasing updates, including security updates for Window XP and 2003 in April 2014. There are still a small number of Windows XP devices on the UCD network.
From 9 July 2018, IT Services will begin removing these devices from the campus network. This includes all devices running unsupported operating systems and devices with embedded XP operating systems.
Any machines discovered connected to the network running these operating systems are in breach of the University Acceptable Use Policy, as they are putting confidential University information, including personal information and the network at unacceptable risk. In accordance with this policy Windows XP or 2003 machines found connected to the University network will be removed.
