How to review a quiz using statistics and reports

The Quizzes tool in Brightspace includes features to allow instructors to review their quizzes via statistics, reports and attempt logs.

It is possible to view most quiz statistics before publishing the results to students. It is also possible to run reports and view attempt logs before publishing quiz results.

In each module, there is an overall quiz statistics tab as well as statistics, reporting and attempt logs for individual quizzes.

The Quiz Statistics tab is found in modules by navigating to Assessment - Quizzes - Statistics.  To view the statistics for an individual quiz, navigate to Assessment - Quizzes - Locate your quiz - Click on the downward arrow beside the quiz name to view options - choose Statistics.

More information on quiz statistics and reports is available (opens in a new window)here

If you make changes to a quiz question after attempts have been made

Editing a quiz question after the quiz attempts were made will NOT affect the existing attempts.  It will also delete question statistics. Instead, use one of the grading workflows shown to adjust the scores for the existing attempts.

How To Regrade A Quiz After Changing A Question

If you fix a bad quiz question after students have submitted the quiz, it will need to be regraded so that students get credit for the correct answer.

It is a 3 step process:

  1. Edit the quiz question to fix it
  2. Adjust student responses and scores
  3. Publish the updated quiz grades in the module

How to Display Quiz Grades Within A Module

Grades won’t automatically transfer to the Grades area in a module if quiz attempts are completed when a Grade Item is not in place. e.g.: if the grade item is only added to the quiz after completion, or if a quiz is manually graded.

In order to show the grades to students you need to:

1. Have a Grade Item associated to it (with the appropriate Grading scheme applied)

2. Ensure "Allow automatic export to grades" is set

3. If before the quiz you did not allow the attempt score to be grades automatically, or you have included manually graded question types, you must click "publish feedback"

There is a video tutorial on showing the workflows to publish and export quiz grades to the grade area of the module:

How to optionally release info about the quiz to students via Submission Views (e.g  correct answers, general feedback)

Submission views options such as showing feedback and correct answers can be seen by students only when the quiz results are published.

Use Submission Views to offer different levels of information to students after completing the quiz.

Default submission view is to show no information, just a message.

Instructors can customise the default Submission View

Instructors can also make extra Submission Views that become active at a certain time

How to Transfer Quiz
Grades To
Infohub/Gradebook

Once your quiz grades are published within the module, you can use the integration with Infohub/Banner Gradebook to automatically transfer those grades from Brightspace to Infohub/Banner Gradebook.

Note - the grades must be linked to grade item and to a letter grade scheme in order for them to be available for transfer to Banner.

UCD Registry & IT Services have prepared a guide to the grade transfer process.
