Office 365 in UCD

Office 365 can be used on PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones.

Note: Not all staff UCD Connect accounts are automatically entitled to Office 365. Please see the list of IT services entitlements here to see what services you are able to access.

Important: Once you are no longer registered as a student, or are no longer employed by the university, access to Office 365 will cease.  This includes any copies of Office that you have downloaded under your University credentials to your devices and access to OneDrive. You should backup any data you have stored on OneDrive before you finish here in UCD.

To access Office go to

Use your UCD email address and your UCD Connect password to login. 

There are three ways of using the Office applications: Downloading Office  to your desktop or laptop, Using Office 365 online, or installing the Office Apps to your smartphone or tablet.

NOTE: If you have a trial version of Office on your computer you should uninstall it before installing Office.

To install Office, log into with your UCD email address and UCD Connect password and then click the Install button. If you don't see an Install button go to:

NOTE: Endnote users, please ensure that all available Endnote patches are up to date to ensure compatibility with Office 2016.

Log into with your UCD email address and UCD Connect password.

In the Collaborate with Office Online section, click on the icons for Word Online, Excel Online and Powerpoint Online to start using the online versions of these Office applications. 

Other applications are made available, as part of a standard MS Education suite, for staff and students to use. It is recommended that customers access Microsoft provided support pages when using these applications.

Is Endnote Supported?

Yes, Endnote 7.5 is supported with Office 2016.  Please ensure that your installation of Endnote is fully patched and up-to-date.

Can I open documents created in Office 365 using a previous version of Office?

Yes, Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 365, or Office 2013 users can open documents created without any additional action. Customers using earlier versions of Office may need to download and install a compatibility pack. Click here to get the compatibility pack.

Can I use Office Applications when I am not connected to the Internet?

You do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, because the applications are fully installed on your computer.

Do I own documents I create using Office 365?

Yes. Documents that you have created belong fully to you. You can choose to store them online on OneDrive or locally on your PC or Mac.

Can I sync my files from my local computer to OneDrive for business?

If you are using a computer which is running Windows 7 you can download the Desktop App. To do this go to Click Download from the top left of the window. Choose download OneDrive for Business. This option is not available for Macs.

To access documents stored on OneDrive offline, you can install the OneDrive desktop app. The app creates a folder on your PC that automatically syncs documents between OneDrive and your computer, so you can work on your documents offline and be assured that they are always in sync.
