In order to maintain the consistent levels of IT service we provide, prepare for start of term and enhance our services, necessary work takes place each summer resulting in scheduled outages.

Please take note of the following dates which have been agreed with key stakeholders:

Scheduled Outages over the Summer
June - September
Switch Refresh/POE. Replace switches with new model switches with POE capability. Involves unracking and physical replacement of switch, approx. 40 minutes outage per switch. Full schedule.

Fri 14 June 06:00-09:00

Newman Building, Arts Annexes (Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington Building/Agnes McGuire Social Work Building/Geary Institute) and Humanities Institute. Local power outage in Newman Building to upgrade existing electrical boards, potentially impacting network across Newman, Arts Annexes, and Humanities.
Sat 15 June 09:00-11:00
Business Systems Network Upgrade to 10G. Business Systems will be unavailable during this time.
Summer Disaster Recovery / Service Continuity Testing Programme
Thur 4 July 06.00 - 09.00
Computer Centre & Server Room MV maintenance. Data Centre will run on generator during the maintenance. The rest of building will have no power. At risk for all services.

Sat 6 July 06:00 – 08:00 

Daedalus Building & Data Centre MV maintenance. Building and Data Centre will run on generator during the maintenance. At risk for all services. 
Fri 5 July 18:00 - 22:00 Sat 6 July
DR Day: Disaster Recovery testing of ALL of our services will take place from 18:00 on Friday 5 July to 22:00 Saturday 6 July (including core services such as wireless, staff file share, single-sign-on, network services, business systems, data centre storage and hosting) therefore a service may become temporarily unavailable at any point during this time. High at risk for all services.
Summer PC Replacement Plan

Mon 24 June - Mon 26 Aug

Work will be carried out over the summer to refresh the hardware in selected open access labs. Software in all the open access labs will also be upgraded to Windows 10.
Service changes/decommissioning

May 2019

The video conferencing facility in G4 in the Daedalus Building is no longer available to book due to the re-purposing  of the room.

1 September 2019

The Blackboard virtual learning environment (including it's supporting services WebPA, SafeAssign and Mahara) will no longer be available. Brightspace is replacing the Blackboard service.

Please note IT Services have a weekly maintenance window every Tuesday between 17:00 and 19:00 in order to undertake routine maintenance and update all systems. Please keep an eye on our service announcements for more information.
