Postgraduate Studies

UCD Sutherland School of Law offers a range of postgraduate programmes, from Criminology to Intellectual Property, reflecting the growing opportunities for law graduates in industries and sectors outside the legal professions.

Specialisation in a particular field with a postgraduate qualification indicates to an employer a student’s intellectual capacity and passion for a particular area of practise.  It can set that candidate apart and at a significant advantage over others.

However, the financial commitment is beyond the reach of many students, and particularly those who have already overcome financial barriers to achieve their undergraduate degree.  Through this programme, the School will seek to award postgraduate scholarships and bursaries to exceptional students who have the ability to succeed, but not the ability to pay.

Scholars-At-Risk

UCD is a member university of the Scholars-at-Risk Network established in the University of Chicago in 1999 which seeks to provide temporary sanctuary to global scholars and academics who face losses of academic freedom and real risks of serious harm, due to armed conflict or indiscriminate violence, in their home countries.

Since becoming a member, UCD has hosted a total of 13 Scholars-at-Risk.  The most recent visitors to the School of Law, from Iran and the Congo, completed their postgraduate studies while at UCD.

The School will continue to be an active member of this important global initiative.
