Awe-Sums: The Majesty of Maths (posted 09/08/16)
UCD School of Maths Emeritus Prof Peter Lynch will be teaching a general interest maths course beginning in September.
The course is called "Awe-Sums: The Majesty of Maths" and will deliver an expository treatment of some of the landmark theorems in mathematics. Their history will be presented and their importance in the modern world illustrated by applications in engineering, technology, medicine, finance, geophysics and the arts. As the name suggests the course illustrate how everyone can enjoy the elegance of brilliant logical arguments and appreciate the beauty of mathematical structures and symmetries without being skilled creators of new theorems.
The course is being presented as part of UCD's Adult Education Programme.
