Associate Professor Jonathan McNulty is Associate Professor in Radiography, Radiography and the School's inaugural Associate Dean for Graduate Taught Studies, first appointed in 2017. As Associate Dean, he oversees all graduate taught programmes and continuing professional development (CPD) offerings across the School of Medicine.
A graduate of UCD’s BSc in Radiography, Jonathan completed a Higher Diploma in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Trinity College Dublin whilst working as a radiographer at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, and subsequently completed his PhD in UCD. He was appointed as Lecturer in Radiography at the UCD School of Medicine in 2005 where he has held a succession of leadership roles. He has coordinated the BSc Radiography programme, was Head of Teaching and Educational Development within UCD Diagnostic Imaging between 2008 to 2016, and Head of Subject, Radiography from 2016 to 2019.
Assoc. Prof. McNulty was a University Fellow in Teaching and Academic Development and is the Deputy Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning in the UCD College of Health and Agricultural Sciences. His research interests include medical education research, optimisation, neuroimaging, and image perception. He has delivered over 160 conference presentations, contributed to over 90 journal articles, and has held significant national and international research grants.
Assoc. Prof. McNulty is former Chairman of the Erasmus Radiography Group, a consortium of 16 academic institutions from across Europe, and former Chairman of the Radiographers Scientific Subcommittee for European Congress of Radiology. He has sat on the central programme planning committee of the European Congress of Radiology since 2019.
He was elected to the Executive Board of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies, representing over 110,000 radiographers, in November 2014, and served as President of the Federation from November 2017 to February 2021. He currently sits on the Executive Board as Immediate Past President. He is an Executive Board Member of the European Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology and has been an Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal, Radiography the top ranked international journal for the profession, since January 2016 and has been confirmed as the next Editor-in-Chief of the journal, commencing in January 2022.
Assoc. Prof. McNulty is an ex officio member of the School Executive Management Committee.
