Edward Keenan was a native of Drumaconvern, Co Monaghan and was educated at the Patrician Brothers’ School, Carrickmacross.

Edward achieved his MB, MCh, BAO Degree from UCD and then benefitted from a travelling scholarship and studied in Berlin under Dr Cappers and then in Amsterdam.

He took his MD in 1930, when he became a Lecturer in Anatomy at UCD.  He was appointed Professor of Anatomy in 1942 and in 1957, he became Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and served as Dean until 1962.

Edward was UCD representative on the General Medical Council in London and was also a member of the Commission for Higher Education.
