Francis John Boxwell Quinlan, MD. Univ. Dubl., F.R.C.P.I., Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy In The Catholic University School Of Medicine, Dublin.

Francis John Boxwell was born in Dublin on 9th May 1834 and received his earlier education from the Jesuits at Belvedere College and later in the Kingstown School. 

He entered TCD in 1852 where he gained a classical sizarship and six years later he graduated in Arts and Medicine from TCD. 

In 1862 Francis John proceeded to the degree of MD and in 1879 he was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physician of Ireland (RCPI), was Censor from 1884 to 1886 and afterwards he was Examiner in Materia Medica and Pharmacy in the College for the next twelve years. 

On these subjects he lectured and examined in the Catholic University School of Medicine and also examined in the Royal University Ireland.  Francis John examined for the Diploma in Public Health of the Irish Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, and focused on the subject of hygiene.
