Professor Geoffrey Bourke was appointed Dean at UCD School of Medicine in Sept 1985.

Geoffrey was an epidemiologist and medical educator. He lectured in Public Health at the School of Medicine from 1961 – 1966, was an Associate Professor at the School from 1966 – 1973 and then Professor of Public Health from 1973 – 1995.

During his career, Geoffrey also held senior non-executive positions at the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Board, National Forum on Tobacco and Health, Medical Bureau of Road Safety and Cancer Research Advancement Board and was an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Ireland and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine in Ireland and the UK.

In the field of public health, Geoffrey is remembered as an inspirational teacher and outstanding academic who developed the public health medicine and epidemiology specialities and leaves a wonderful legacy in that regard.
