UCD School of Medicine - International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2022

UCD School of Medicine recognises the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) among our students and staff to drive optimum school performance through the active engagement of all.

As part of the School’s EDI agenda and acknowledging International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) 2022, which recognises that full and equal access to and participation in science, technology and innovation for women and girls of all ages is imperative for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the School is presenting this video.

This video highlights the work of eight female researchers in our School as listed below, where the researchers tell you about the important biomedical and clinical scientific translational research that they are conducting, and why they support IDWGS.

  2. Prof Geraldine McCarthy, Consultant Rheumatologist, Mater University Hospital and Full Clinical Professor Rheumatology, UCD (Researcj focus: Calcium crystal deposition diseases
  3. Dr Dearbhaile Dooley, Assistant Prof in Medicine (Research focus: Inflammatory response to spinal cord injury)
  4. Dr Anna Curley, Clinical Associate Prof, Consultant Neonatologist NMH (Research focus: platelet transfusion in newborn babies)
  5. Dr Fiona McGillicuddy,  Assistant Prof in Medicine (Research focus: Cardiovascular disease)
  6. Prof Sabine Koelle, Full Professor of Developmental Biology and Anatomy (Research focus: Reproductive biology and fertility)  
  7. Dr Virginie Gautier, Associate Professor (Research focus: the Host-Virus interface, HIV molecular pathogenesis and SARS COV-2)
  8. Dr Sinead Holden, Research Fellow, UCD CRC (Research focus: MSK disorders, integrating technology and data analytics in clinical research)
