The UCD School of Medicine & Medical Science’s annual Clinical Commencement 'White Coat' Ceremony took place on Wednesday, 28th January 2015 in O’Reilly Hall, UCD.
SPARC is a UCD Teaching & Learning funded pilot initiative to facilitate the delivery of projects aimed at making UCD a better place to live, work and learn. One of only four SPARC awards went to Dr Gordon Cooke, Research Scientist, SMMS, to create a virtual tour of a laboratory in the Conway (LabVIEW 360 interactive virtual lab tour).
For the tenth consecutive year, Prof Bill Watson welcomed the 6th class students from St Andrew’s National School, Lucan to the School of Medicine & Medical Science during Young Scientist Week. This annual visit is part of an initiative Prof Watson started to increase the children’s interest in Science and to perhaps encourage them to take Science subjects in secondary school and following that, at third level.
The one year full-time scholarship programme will see successful candidates undertake a graduate research degree while gaining skills and experience teaching functional and clinical anatomy to medical and allied heath students.
Dr. Maeve Hillery, who has died in her 91st year, was a medical doctor, a proud graduate of UCD, an anaesthetist and wife of Dr. Patrick Hillery, sixth President of Ireland. She had a lifelong interest in the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science and was particularly proud when the School named a lecture theatre after her late husband.
