The ISSF Scheme, which is supported under the SFI-HRB-Wellcome Trust Research Partnership, with matched funding from UCD (Research, CHAS and CoS), aims to help UCD’s researchers overcome systemic barriers to career and network development, ultimately unlocking future research potential within the University and beyond.
The Fund will support high-quality research in the biomedical and clinical sciences. It is also available to directly support research or collaborations within the medical humanities field. In particular, the Fund will be used to support initiatives in the Personalised & Translational Medicine and One Health arenas.
The following two Schemes are open in this Round;
Clinical Primer Scheme
This Scheme will support qualified, early stage medical and veterinary clinicians; practitioners; and individuals of the allied health services within medicine and veterinary medicine, and allow them an opportunity to work in a research environment, generating significant research outcomes that can be leveraged to pursue future external funding. Up to three fellows will be funded in this round, with funding of €46,600 per award being made available for up to 12 months to support clinical buyout time and associated research costs. This scheme is specifically open to individuals employed either by UCD; hospitals within the Ireland East Hospital Group; or medical and veterinary medical centres affiliated with, or linked in to UCD. Please see call documentation for further specific details.
Mid-Career Stimulus and Diversification Scheme
This Scheme will support excellent mid-career researchers who were previously highly productive but whose activity has been impeded by radical post-recession changes in Irish research funding or has been lost as a result of extended leave, or indeed a combination of the two. This scheme will fund up to two fellows in this round for up to 12 months. The maximum value of the award under this programme is €70,000 per awardee available to midcareer researchers (7-20years’ experience post PhD) to support / to hire research staff, and associated research costs. This scheme is open to those currently employed by UCD, whom have a contract for the entire duration of the award. It is not available to support the direct salary costs of the applicant. Please see call documentation for further specific details.
