UCD Alumnus Awarded Steevens' Scholarship
We were delighted to have been contacted from Paris by UCD Medicine alumnus Dr Eavan McGovern with news of success by our student in an international neurology competition. We’ll bring you more of the student success shortly but thought that we should update you on Dr McGovern’s own success first.
We extend our congratulations to Dr Eavan McGovern (UCD Medicine 2007), formerly specialist registrar in neurology and UCD Clinical Tutor at St Vincent’s University Hospital who was recently awarded a Dr. Richard Steevens' Scholarship. This prestigious award is given annually to Specialist or Senior Registrars with strong track records in achievement. The Scholarship supports doctors to train in centers of excellence overseas in novel areas of medicine and patient care which are limited or unavailable in Ireland and to bring the skills gained back to the Irish health service. The Scholarship was developed and established by the HSE in 2007 with a number of past recipients having since been appointed to consultant posts in Ireland. Dr McGovern’s award is one of only four such awards to have been made in 2017.
Dr McGovern has commenced a one year Clinical Fellowship in Transitional Care Neurology in the Brain and Spine Institute, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France. The Hospital’s Department of Neurology is an international neurology centre of excellence and was founded by Jean-Martin Charcot, the founder of modern Neurology.
