The UCD Perinatal Research team attended the 58th Robert Graves Lecture which was given by Prof Fergus Shanahan at the RCPI on the 6th June 2019. The UCD Medicine alumnus explored the importance of the microbiome and demonstrated how microbes influence human health and risk of disease.

The Association for the Study of Obesity on the island of Ireland held its 7th Annual Conference and AGM on the 17th & 18th May 2019 at the Convention Centre, Dublin. This year, the theme for the conference was ‘Building Bonds: Bettering Practice – Patient advocacy and approaches to reduce obesity stigma’.
The UCD Perinatal Research Centre based at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street was launched today with a symposium highlighting maternal and fetal health research undertaken over the past ten years and a reflection on the future challenges of the global obesity epidemic on mother and child health.
Having recently been designated academic centre status, the UCD Perinatal Research Centre will be formally launched by Prof Fionnuala McAuliffe at the National Maternity Hospital on Thursday 15th March 2018 from 9:30am – 1pm at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles St.

The speaker will be Professor David J Gunnell, Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Bristol Medical School. Prof Gunnell is an English epidemiologist with a particular focus on suicide. Dr Patrick Devitt will give a brief overview of the experience of suicide in Ireland. Dr Devitt served as Ireland’s Inspector of Mental Health Services for over seven years.
