Medicine is a fascinating course of study, which comes with a great college experience and leads on to a challenging and rewarding career. I chose to study in UCD because I liked the course structure and the access to a variety of different teaching hospitals around the country and abroad.  

I was intrigued by the modular design of the course, allowing me to study subjects totally outside of my primary degree, such as Polish, as well as gain a more in-depth perspective on certain aspects of medicine, including trauma, forensic anthropology and stem cells.

Highlights of my time at UCD included many events, balls and parties with the UCD Medical Society, a J-1 summer in Chicago and class trips everywhere from Galway to Thailand. I also spent two summers in major medical centres in the USA; this was made possible by the broad network of UCD graduates working around the world.

Classmates of mine spent time training in places as far-flung as Cuba, Australia and Malaysia, as well as doing volunteer work in Malawi, Tanzania and Haiti.

I am currently a junior doctor in St Vincent’s University Hospital, where I also trained as a student. I will probably continue training in general internal medicine here in Ireland, but I can bring my degree anywhere in the world.
