Stage Five Medicine

Why did you choose to study medicine?

I chose to study medicine because its something ive always thought I would enjoy, I loved biology and all the sciences in school and I thought it was something I would be good at. It also seemed like a very interactive sociable career.

What made you choose UCD?

Putting UCD down as my first choice was a very easy thing for me. It’s so close to home, and I knew the course would be demanding, so I didn’t want to move too far from family and friends. Also, the UCD campus has every facility you could possibly need.

What has been the most interesting part of the course so far?

Starting on clinical placement has been by far the most interesting part, it’s fascinating to see the things we’ve learnt in text books and lectures actually happening, and we get to be really involved in the patients care, each day is different.

What has been the most challenging part of the course so far?

I think the most challenging part is the early mornings...the workload is definitely demanding and commitment is consistently required.

What advice would you give to prospective students who are thinking of taking the course?

I would say hands down its the best decision you will ever make, I’ve met so many great friends and the entire college experience has been so rewarding . You have to be willing to apply yourself study wise and work hard but don’t let it become the most important thing, lifes too short.

What do you hope to do, or in which area would you like to specialise after graduation?

I haven’t found my speciality yet and i’m still looking but I know whatever it is i will enjoy it.
