How to get involved

We warmly welcome interest from GPs and colleagues working in primary care to participate in or collaborate with our research programme. We offer a range of opportunities for engagement recognising the significant time and resource challenges which the Primary Care community faces.

Individual GPs or Primary Care practitioners may wish to:

  • Attend formal research and education events organised by the School
  • Contribute to new and existing research projects
  • Help define our Primary Care research agenda
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate research students
  • Support our Primary Care education through undergraduate medical student placements
  • Participate remotely by webline and via social media

Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for Teaching Practices

UCD School of Medicine is currently seeking EoIs from General Practices who would like to become involved in its clinical teaching programmme in General Practice. The School currently provides clinical placements for students on the following modules:

  • Clinical Science / Early Patient Contact for Graduate Entry Medicine students (Stage 2): half-day placements over a term provide a clear foundation for parallel, non-clinical modules
  • General Practice & Professionalism: Delivered in Stage 4, this module provides students with an opportunity to learn about history taking, clinical examination and aspects of medical professionalism by spending one week on clinical placement in a General Practice
  • Medicine in the Community: Delivered in Stage 5-6, this module provides students with an opportunity to learn clinical medicine in the setting of General Practice by spending two placements (each of one week) in a General Practice setting.

Teaching practices / GP colleagues who support clinical placements will receive:

  • Honorarium in respect of hosting clinical placements
  • Eligible for UCD Adjunct Clinical Pathway[1]
  • Regular (online and in person) seminars on clinical teaching.

If you are interested and would like to discuss becoming involved, please do not hesitate to contact us (details below). If you would like your practice to become a clinical teaching practice, please submit a brief EoI here.
