Clinical Commencement Ceremony 2020
The UCD Medicine Clinical Commencement 'White Coat' Ceremony 2020 will take place on the evening of Friday 7th February 2019 at UCD O'Reilly Hall for medical students entering the formal clinical training stage of their studies. The ceremony will be followed by a reception for students, their guests and staff in the Conservatory, O'Reilly Hall.
The Clinical Commencement Ceremony marks the transition from a predominantly preclinical medical education focus to an intensive period of clinical training. The White Coat symbolises the professional responsibilities that students will assume throughout their clinical life and highlights that though students they will become embedded alongside healthcare professionals for the remainder of their clinical training.
During the ceremony, the students will be asked to always maintain professional attitudes and behaviours in work and relationships with classmates, teachers, patients and the community and to commit to follow ethical and professional standards of the profession. Our tradition has been for an experienced clinician to offer their personal reflections on these themes, their career lessons and the challenges of meeting the public’s high expectations of the medical profession.
We look forward to welcoming students and their families to celebrate this major educational milestone. Further details will be circulated directly to the relevant students.
We hope to be in a position to livestreaming this event on the web from 6pm to allow family and friends of our students in Ireland and around the world view the ceremony.
