LANG10040 English for Academic Purposes 5

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module is designed for international students who have a B1 level of English and wish to improve their English for personal and professional development in an academic environment. Students will improve their understanding of native speaker usage in an academic setting. The aim of this class is to help students read academic texts more effectively and critically and listen to lectures in order to summarize points of view. Students will have the opportunity to evaluate their performance on short presentations on academic topics and will develop the ability to analyse research findings in a formal academic style. Aspects of Irish academic culture will be introduced through written and spoken texts and classroom discussions. This module will be delivered via small group teaching with classes having a maximum of 18 students. Students will also have access to extra resources and materials via the Virtual Learning Environment, Brightspace.

Entrance to all English language modules is based on the completion of the English Placement Test. Please register online for the placement test at: https://www.ucd.ie/cegl/programmes/glm/placement_tests/
If you have previously completed an English module with us and wish to progress to the next level, please send an email to languages@ucd.ie
