UCD’s Ciara Everard wins Senior Women's 800m at National Championships

Ciara Everard (UCD Athletics Club) won the Senior Women's 800m at the Woodie’s DIY Irish National Indoor Athletics Championships at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

With 300m left in the race, Ciara who had been running well but in a boxed position, seized on a gap which opened up and accelerated hard to take the lead. She held the lead all the way to the finish line crossing it at 2:07.34 to take the title.

“After this short successful indoor season, I am now really looking forward to the outdoor season starting in May where I plan to lower my times at 1500m, 800m & 400m,” said Ciara.

“I have a few easy days now, then back to hard base training for 2 months and then transition to track work at the end of April.”

The National Indoor Athletics Championships took place in Belfast on 11 & 12 February 2012.

Everard, who is a UCD physiotherapy student on a UCD Sports Scholarship for Athletics, set a new Irish U23 800m indoor record at the Irish University Indoor Track and Field Championships earlier in February 2012. On this occasion, she crossed the finish line at 2:05.76
