3rd International Ankle Symposium

Symposium, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4
1 - 3, September 2006

UCD School of Physiotherapy and Performance Science will host the 3rd International Ankle Symposium at the UCD Health Sciences Centre from September 1st - 3rd. The conference will provide a forum for dissemination of the latest international research findings in the area of ankle sprains and instability.

Ankle sprains, instability and rehabilitation - the theme of the 3rd International Ankle Symposium - is an issue which impacts significantly on the health-care community in terms of time loss from activity (work, competition, recreation, etc.), the long term consequences such as osteoarthritis, and the financial cost of treatment and care.

Ankle sprain and chronic ankle instability comprise the most common sporting injuries seen by sports medicine clinicians worldwide. Ankle sprain accounts for up to 10% of admissions to A&E departments and conservative population estimates indicate that it accounts for a total cost of over 160m euros in Ireland each year.

Building on the outcomes of the previous two symposiums (Ulm, Germany in 2000, and Delaware, USA in 2004), the conference will examine ankle instability and other related ankle pathologies from a multidisciplinary perspective. The symposium will include a range of keynote lectures, clinical assessment and treatment technique workshops, platform presentations of new research.
