The Smurfit School MBA CMC (Career Management Centre) has launched their new MBA CV Booklet for 2005. Sponsored by Deloitte, the launch event was held on Tuesday 8th February at the Davenport Hotel, Dublin 2. The new CV booklet showcases the Full-time MBA Class of 2005 and has been produced to aid prospective employers in their search for talented staff. Of this years class of 60 students, 80% have worked overseas and close to half hail from international locations, including Europe, North America and South-East Asia. From accountants, dentists and doctors, to marketing managers, HR and IT professionals and engineers, the skill set within this group is extraordinary. Through the MBA they will gain skills in the intricate and complex world of global business.

According to guest speaker Sean Dorgan, Chief Executive, IDA Ireland Ireland offers investors a stable, profitable, English speaking base to service world markets. This is why more than 1,000 overseas companies have made Ireland their location of choice.
Ireland's competitiveness is based not on tax benefits and costs alone, but on knowledge, innovation, flexibility, and connectedness - how everything works together. Ireland has demonstrated the ability to adopt and adapt to change in a unique way that connects innovation, knowledge, people and enterprise to meet the fast-evolving demands of world markets. I wish the MBA Class of 2005 success in achieving their ambitions and know they will contibute further to the success of Irelands economy.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Mary Lambkin, Dean, UCD Business Schools, congratulated the MBA Class of 2005 on their fine publication, and said For the past ten years Smurfit School UCD has consistently proven that we can compete at the highest level in international business education. Two weeks ago we were once again ranked in the Financial Times annual top 100 of global business schools, out of approximately 2,500 business schools worldwide. We were also ranked in the top 20 in Europe, and as the leader in Ireland. The school came joint first in the world for the criteria Employed at Three Months, the percentage of graduates who had gained employment within three months. Since 2000 the school has increased its investment significantly in an MBA Career Management Service, resulting in an excellent 99% of MBAs employed three months after graduation last year.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso this month set out plans for Europe to take on the USAs dominance in university research. He said a top priority would be to raise Europes research base and help create top-flight international universities. We need the equivalent of on MIT or Harvard Business School in Europe. I firmly believe that in Smurfit School UCD we have the capability to create the Harvard Business School of Europe. My goal is to put Smurfit School UCD amongst the top ten business schools in Europe, but to achieve this we need the resources; we need the investment. If this goal is to be achieved the Government and the business community must invest heavily in producing the business leaders of tomorrow. We simply cannot afford to become complacent about Irelands position in the world rankings.

Addressing the MBA students, David Hearn, Partner-in-charge, Management Consultants, Deloitte Ireland, said An MBA is a fantastic education as well as a lifetime experience, and I wish you all every success upon completion of your program. We in Deloitte Consulting have experience of working with a variety of clients many of whom hold MBAs, and indeed a number of our own consulting staff hold MBAs, so we are well aware of the high esteem of this qualification. In todays competitive marketplace, we find that those who achieve ongoing success in their careers are those who adopt a long-term strategy to career development and the roles they take. We would encourage those in this class to be prepared to take this approach to your future development, and view your MBA as a prized tool which will assist you in achieving success over the lifetime of your career.
