sfi500

      The sfi500 spectrometer was
funded by the SFI through their equipment supplement grant scheme to researchers in Chemistry.

Location :  NMR Laboratory, CSCB Building.

Spectrometer: Varian 500MHz System , multinuclear with gradients.

Probe : 500MHz 1H-19F {15N-31P} 5mm PFG Indirect Detection probe designed for inverse detection experiments. These experiments show correlations between heteronuclei and protons by detecting high sensitivity protons. The probe has optimal proton sensitivity (S/N 850:1) and capability for irradiation at frequencies within the range of 15N to 31P with an actively shielded single-axis Z-gradient. Deuterium decoupling can also be carried out.

Variable Temperature Range: -20°C to +80
°C

Note:  Both sfi500 and cscb600 have FTS preconditioning units enabling experiments to be run as low as -30
°C without the use of liquid nitrogen. The maximum operating temperature at present is 30°C. A dedicated supply of N2 gas would be needed for temperatures higher than 30°C; such experiments (and experiments at temperatures lower than -30°C) can be performed on the cscb400 and sunucd500 spectrometers in the meantime, due to the provision of  pure nitrogen gas (necessary for probe) from a BOC liquid nitrogen tower and a liquid nitrogen dewar for low temp work. At present, we are costing  similar provisions for the CSCB Building.
