Dr. Yves-Charles Zarka is Professor of Philosophy and Political Theory at the University of Paris – Descartes. He is also Researcher in Modern Philosophy at the CNRS, where he is Director of the Thomas Hobbes Research Institute. One of France’s most important political philosophers, he has published extensively on Hobbes, Schmidt, Hegel, Foucault, as well as on the question of subjectivity, sovereignty and tolerance in classical and contemporary political philosophy. He is also the founder and director of the journal Cités published by the Presses Universitaires de France. He has hel visiting professorships at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, the University of Turin, the University of Tel Aviv, John Hopkins University (Baltimore), the University of Montreal and the University of Chicago.
