Funding for MA programmes

Students are also encouraged to explore opportunities with outside funding agencies.  The information below relates to some of the more widely available sources, but is by no means exhaustive.

1. UCD International - scholarships available specifically for international students

              a) Scholarships for past UCD Study Abroad students from outside the European Union (non-EU).
              b) Scholarships for students who graduated from member universities of Universitas 21
              c) Scholarships for students from specific countries

International students are also encouraged to explore funding schemes in their home countries.

2. Student Universal Support Ireland - grants for fees for Irish resident students (means-tested).

3. MA Newman Scholarships - grants for fees only for MA students who wish to write their dissertation on an aspect or legacy of John Henry Newman.




The UCD School of Philosophy Newman Trust MA Scholarships 2018-19

The UCD School of Philosophy is pleased to announce 2 MA scholarships for students wishing to enrol in the MA programmes in the UCD School of Philosophy and write their minor dissertation on an aspect of the work or legacy of John Henry Newman.

The scholarships will provide a significant contribution (minimum 50% up to possible 100%) to the cost of tuition fees. Scholarships are open to Irish, EU and International applicants. The scholarships are endowed by the Newman Trust.

John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was a leading intellectual, religious thinker, philosopher and literary figure whose works include The Idea of a University (1852), An Essay in Aid of a Grammar of Assent (1870), and Apologia Pro Vita Sua (1864). Newman was the founder of the Catholic University of Ireland that led to the establishment of University College Dublin.

Before making an application to the Newman MA Scholarship please apply online to your chosen programmes at In addition to formally applying for admission, applicants are requested to email a brief description of what aspect(s) of Newman's work most interests them to the School Manager. Closing date for receipt of the completed online application to the programme and scholarship application is 19 June 2018.
