MA in Consciousness and Embodiment

The MA draws on the research interests of philosophers and cognitive scientists in UCD. It brings together expertise from the phenomenological and analytic traditions in philosophy as well as empirical approaches to the study of the mind/brain to offer a unique taught Masters course on a much-discussed and important topic.

The programme is available over 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. At the heart of the module are six taught modules, to be selected from the following list.  Please note that only one of the two Cognitive Science modules may be taken.

Semester 1:

Semester 2:

  • PHIL 40250 Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenology of Perception 
  • PHIL 40960 The Cultural Mind 
  • PHIL40970 Consciousness, Agency & the Self
  • PHIL40980 Guided Reading
  • PHIL40990 Guided Reading
  • PHIL41330 Philosophy of Time
  • PHIL41530 Reading and Research
  • COMP 40280 Embodied and Enactive Approaches to Cognitive Science (Fred Cummins)*

* Students may only take one COMP module
