National Nutrition Surveillance Centre in UCD and the Health Service Executive publish latest results from Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative in Ireland

Launched on Thursday 4th May by Minister Corcoran-Kennedy, Minister of State for Health Promotion, the report show that levels of excess weight in children are stabilising.

The results also show that:

? at least one in five children are overweight or obese

? more girls than boys are overweight or obese across all ages

? those attending DEIS schools tend to have higher levels of overweight and obesity and the gap becomes wider as children get older
