This UCD Professional Diploma in UX Design is being delivered in partnership with the UX Design Institute. As well as a deep understanding of the domain, you will develop a portfolio of work to showcase your talent to potential employers. Over six months, you will cover 130 hours of online learning, backed up by live sessions with a mentor and a work experience placement if needed.
You can secure your place with a deposit of 5% and pay the rest in instalments. Part-time students can avail of our 50-50 payment plan, whereby 50% of the fees are due upon commencement and the balance of 50% is due 30 days after you start the course.

This course is suitable for any professional who wants to build a successful career in UX – you may be looking to transition into this field or you may want to use UX skills in your current position. This course involves completing 130 hours of online learning over six months, with much of the work being done in your own time. You will be a professional who is comfortable organising your time and staying motivated and engaged in a self-paced learning situation.
You must have a Level 6 major award or equivalent. Relevant professional experience may be accepted in place of academic qualifications. You will ideally have several years’ professional experience behind you as well.
Typically, students come from a range of professional backgrounds (such as project management, graphic design, marketing, product management, or business analysis) and have complementary skills that allow them to get the most from the course.
According to LinkedIn, UX Design is one of the top five hard skills that employers are looking for. As well as developing your skills and knowledge, this course will build your confidence from a true, deep understanding of the domain.
Completing this course will allow you to create the all-important portfolio that will show employers you have the hands-on experience to deliver successful UX projects. In the world of UX, your portfolio is your CV, so the focus will be on creating a portfolio that highlights the depth of your knowledge to potential employers.
During the course you’ll prepare 8 case study projects, each showcasing your skills in a certain area of UX.
Online courses can be accessed from any computer or laptop with an internet connection. You do not need special software. You will be given access to our Student Portal, where you can access all your study materials and manage your account. Lectures are prerecorded, so you can watch them in your own time.
There will also be three live mentoring sessions, delivered using Zoom. Login details and instructions on how to join a Zoom meeting can be found in your Student Portal. When appropriate, students will be encouraged to activate their microphone so that they can ask questions and communicate with other students. You do not have to enable your camera if you don’t want to.
Throughout the course, the Student Services team is on hand to support you.
Assessment is based on a computer-based examination lasting 120 minutes. It will measure your knowledge and UX design expertise following completion of all lessons and submission of your course project work. A range of different question formats is used, including text-based multiple-choice, image-based multiple-choice, and matching and hot spot questions.
In addition, you must submit a minimum of 8 projects as part of the case study, which is used to build your professional design portfolio.
When you successfully graduate, you will gain:
- A Professional Diploma in UX Design from UCD Professional Academy
- A Professional Diploma in UX Design from UX Design Institute and credit-rated by Glasgow Caledonian University
- A Level 6 National Framework of Qualification (NFQ) and 10 credits with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
Your UCD Professional Diploma will be issued electronically on a secure platform, with a link that you can share with employers and others wishing to verify your credentials. You’ll also be able to add the certification to your LinkedIn profile to demonstrate your achievement to your network as well as recruiters and potential employers searching for individuals with your skills and experience.
