Virtual Learning for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder

People with autism typically have difficulties with communication and socialization skills. The aim of this research programme was to develop training on conversation skills for people with neurodevelopmental disabilities, through Virtual Reality. As part of the overall project, a Participatory Design methodology with young adults with Intellectual Disabilities was used to co-design with them a set of instructions on "how to do online shopping".

Amgen Biotech ExperienceAmgen_image

The Amgen Biotech Experience engages with secondary school teachers to enable them to deliver hands-on laboratory practicals in their classrooms. This professional development includes learning molecular biology techniques, sharing curriculum linked resources and loaning research grade equipment and consumables to schools 

Furthermore, it promote STEM careers and provide opportunity for pupils to benefit from experiential STEM learning opportunities.

Involving Patients and Carers in Cancer ResearchRoundtable discussion

The Patient Voice in Cancer Research (PVCR) is an initiative to actively engage cancer patients, cancer researchers and other interested parties (patient advocates, families, carers, healthcare professionals, policy-makers and those with an interest in cancer research), in discussions and decision-making processes, which positively impact on cancer research and outcomes for patients.

The Science ApprenticeChildren with books

The Science Apprentice book series allows children to explore science, technology, engineering and maths in a way that is tangible and inspiring. Created by an interdisciplinary team of STEM and education researchers, writers, science communicators and primary school students, the Science Appretice brought aspects of STEM in UCD in to the homes of many children across Ireland in 2017 and 2018.
