QQI-FET Progression

University College Dublin is the only university offering the Degree of Bachelor of Agricultural Science in the Republic of Ireland and provides excellent teaching, laboratory and research station facilities. The University offers 11 specialisations in the business and science of agriculture within the internationally recognised Agricultural Science degree programme and also offers a BSc in Food Science programme. Each of the degree programme options is designed to educate the professionals who will play leading roles in key sectors of the economy. The following are options within this course:

How do I enter via this route?

Entry to first year is available on a competitive basis to students who have attained the relevant major awards with the required components.  The relevant major awards are detailed below.

What major awards are accepted?

Animal Care

Pass in the QQI-FET Level 5 major award 5M2768 Animal Care with Distinction (80% or better) in a minimum of 5 components.

What components are required?

The major award must include Distinction (80% or better) in the following components:

  C20139 or 5N1833 Mathematics or  Grade O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate Mathematics
AND  5N2746 Biology or Grade O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate Biology
    or 5N0750 Animal Anatomy & Physiology


Laboratory Techniques

Pass in the QQI-FET Level 5 major award CASLT/5M3807 Laboratory Techniques with Distinction (80% or better) in a minimum of 5 components.

What components are required?

The award must include Distinction (80% or better) in the following components:

  C20139 or 5N1833 Mathematics
or C20174 Mathematics for Engineering
or C20175 Mathematics for Computing
or Grade O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate Mathematics 

And in 2 of the following components:

C20006 or 5N2746 Biology
C20011 or 5N2747 Chemistry
C20048 or 5N1460 Physics


Horticulture

Pass in the QQI-FET Level 5 major award CASHX/5M2586 Horticulture with Distinction (80% or better) in a minimum of 5 components.

What components are required?

The major award must include Distinction (80% or better) in the following components:

  C20049 or 5N2528 Plant Science
AND C20055 or 5N2530 Soil Science and Growing Media
AND C20190 or 5N2527 Plant Identification and Use
AND

C20139 or 5N1833 Mathematics

or C20174 Mathematics for Engineering

or C20175 Mathematics for Computing

or Grade O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate Mathematics

How will I be assessed?

If there are more applicants than places, admission will be competitive amongst eligible applicants based on QQI-FET scoring.
