University College Dublin Astronomers Collaborate with International Research Teams in Discovery of Light Associated with a Gravitational Wave Source

In a series of significant scientific papers published on 16th October, international teams of researchers, including astronomers from the Space Science Group in University College Dublin’s (UCD) School of Physics, have announced the discovery of light, or more correctly electromagnetic radiation, associated with a gravitational wave source.

Stephen Carter wins 2017 UCD Conway Festival gold medal

PhD student, Stephen Carter has won the 2017 UCD Conway Festival gold medal for his work to identify proteins involved in the formation and function of cilia, the tiny hair-like projections extending from the surfaces of most human cell types.

SiriusXT CEO Wins Enterprise Ireland’s Inaugural Founder of the Year Award

Tony McEnroe, CEO of SiriusXT, a UCD spin-out company, has won Enterprise Ireland’s inaugural High Potential Start-up (HPSU) Founder of the Year Award which is supported by Grant Thornton. As the overall winner the company received a prize valued at €15,000 provided by Grant Thornton to further support the development of the company.

New research finds biomarkers linked to melanoma patient survival

An international research collaboration led by University College Dublin (UCD), involving the UCD spin-out company OncoMark and Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute in Barcelona, has identified a set of biomarkers strongly linked with survival in patients with melanoma that may help clinicians with treatment decisions.
