Fund a Dedicated Programme

UCD has a proven track record of working with companies to develop and deliver customised research programmes.  These programmes are funded by the interested company or a consortium of companies to deliver on a specific research agenda.

An example of this type of partnership can be seen in the TRIL Centre – Technology Research for Independent Living, set up in 2007.  This centre was funded by GE and Intel to combine high quality clinical investigation with intensive qualitative research to develop technology solutions to address the consequences of ageing.  In 2013, the TRIL centre successfully evolved into the Enterprise Ireland ARCH Centre, and a major strand of the SFI Insight Centre.

In order to address their research needs, many companies choose to directly sponsor research studentships, fellowships, and academic positions.  For example: Tullow Oil has sponsored the "Tullow Oil Professorship of Petroleum Geoscience" and two "Tullow Oil Lecturer in Petroleum Geoscience" posts, ICON has sponsored "ICON Newman Fellowship in Genomics", and the "ICON Professor of Business Analytics".
