Information for Researchers

Research Ethics applies to all members of University College Dublin who conduct research that involves human and animal subjects. Prospective researchers are encouraged to explore the policies and guidelines throughout this website.

Researchers submitting to the Animal Research Ethics Committee should consult the AREC Intranet.

In this section you will find information applicable for submitting to either of the two Human Research Ethics Committees:

Human Research Ethics Committee - Sciences (LS)

Human Research Ethics Committee - Humanities (HS)

Low Risk/Exemptions From Full Review

Please note that securing ethical approval or low risk/exemption from full review as well as the management of its corresponding documentation is the sole responsibility of the researcher.

The Office of Research Ethics cannot be held responsible for  record keeping or timeframes (responses to Committee's decisions etc.) on behalf of any researcher.

The Office of Research Ethics has no role in liaising between researchers and third parties, i.e. competent authorities, funding agencies, other Research Ethics Committees etc. However, we may assist researchers upon request.
