SBI Welcomes Summer Interns

Four international interns have joined the Systems Biology Ireland team this summer.

Lucie Mirande is interning in Jonathan Bond's group and comes from Normandy in France, where she is currently in her third year of a five year Master’s program in Engineering in Biology and Health Systems in Polytech Angers, an engineering school specialising in biology. Lucie arrived at SBI in May, along with Chloe Houssay and Maxime Paulet.

Chloe Houssay is also a student from Polytech Angers, and is working with Oleksii Rukhlenko in the Kholodenko Group. She is from La Flèche, a small town in northwestern France. She is in her first year and explained that she studies biology in its entirety.

"The SBI team is very friendly and welcoming," she said. "I am having a very good internship."

Maxime Paulet is another Kholodenko Group intern this summer, and comes from Courbevoie, a suburb of Paris, where he studies biology at Polytech Clermont-Ferrand. His internship at SBI is valdiating his second year in the engineering cycle. He said the equipment at SBI is perfect for his research and he has found the atmosphere very welcoming.  

Finally, Swathi Ramachandra Upadhya started her internship with Colm Ryan's group in June. She is originally from India.

"Currently, I'm pursuing a MSc in Computer Science (Negotiated Learning) in UCD School of Computer Science," she said. "As part of my third semester dissertation, I'm working on the topic Predicting the abundance of tumour suppressors in breast cancer cells under the supervision of Dr Colm Ryan."
