Research Fellow Level 1- Data and Information Science

Applications are invited for a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1- Data and Information Science post within UCD Spatial Dynamics Lab.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a 12-month post–doctorate research position as part of a European Research Council funded project – TechEvo (Technology Evolution in Regional Economies). The position is available from 1 February 2020 in the area of advanced techniques for data mining and modelling, and the management and visualization of dynamic relational of socio-economic data in a web-based environment. Prior knowledge of spatial econometrics methods, expertise with geographical information systems, as well as experience working with Tableau are desirable skills, but not mandatory. An example of a previously developed dynamic websites that visualizes large-scale relational data, e.g. dashboard, is an essential application criterion.

The objective of the TechEvo project is to investigate how specific regional knowledge capabilities influence the evolution of local science and technology trajectories and thus shape geographies of economic prosperity. Focusing on the evolution of scientific and technical knowledge and set in an evolutionary framework the investigation aims to provide ground-breaking insights into how innovative individuals and entities are embedded in social and cognitive local and non-local networks, and how regional technology trajectories are shaped. TechEvo will provide a wealth of indicators, models and tools that will assist firms and policy makers in place-based investment decisions and deliver a science and technology policy evaluation tool capable of assessing impact.

The successful applicant will be working directly with TechEvo's principal investigator, Prof. Dieter F. Kogler and a number of international collaborators. Short-term visits to European higher education institutes and research organizations in order to carry out collaborative and in situ data and modelling work might be necessary over the duration of the contract. The post-doctorate research position will primarily be based at University College Dublin (IE) as a part of Prof. Kogler's research group in the Spatial Dynamics Lab.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Post Doc Level 1 Salary Scale: €37,874 - €43,782 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
