Professor Singleton (Fellow Emeritus, Trinity College Dublin) is a former President of both the International Association of Applied Linguistics and European Second Language Acquisition. Last year he was given the EUROSLA Distinguished Scholar Award, which noted that he was one of the founding members of EUROSLA, and "is a prolific researcher in the field of SLA through the publication of numerous papers, monographs, edited books and textbooks. He has contributed significantly to the shaping of the field, in areas as diverse as the age factor, the L2 lexicon and cross-linguistic influence, inspiring many new researchers".
