SLCL Graduate Community

The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics offers a welcoming research and learning environment for MA, MLitt and PhD students. We have an active and supportive Graduate community in our School with regular events and get-togethers organised throughout the year. 

The following events are available to all Graduate students during term-time:

  • Graduate Get-Togethers including Very Short Talks and Invited Speaker Slots
  • Graduate Coffee moments
  • Graduate Writing Workshops for intense moments of Academic Writing (Shut Up and Write workshops; also celebration of Academic Writing Month AcWriMo)
  • Convivial kitchen space available for Graduate student coffee sessions or small informal meetings.
  • Annual School in-house conference at which each PhD candidate is encouraged to present a short paper in front of a positive and constructive audience
  • New! Conference funding for PhD students who wish to present at conferences abroad (details forthcoming 2019)
  • New! Online self-publication space for PhD students (academic space on which they may post work-in-progress or short working papers, or conference papers (video or text) (forthcoming 2019)
