UCD School of Sociology Teaching Plans for the Autumn Trimester (2020/21 Academic Year)
1st September 2020
Message from the Head of School:
As we come close to the beginning of academic year 2020/21 I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you and to wish you well in the coming year. The autumn will continue to be unusual because of the pandemic. The University is preparing plans and putting in place measures that bear in mind national guidelines. You can find a link to the relevant University pages below and you will be briefed on these by the University in due course. Within the School we have been hard at work preparing plans that bear in mind our current context of blended learning, social distancing, face coverings, hand hygiene and potential lockdowns. We have prepared separate guidance for undergraduate and taught masters students, which you can link to below. We hope you will work with us in our endeavour to contribute to the national effort to stem the flow of the virus. It rests with all of us to participate in this effort, not just or even mainly for ourselves, but more so for those more vulnerable and at risk.
You will find in the information below, and in the individual module outlines that you will have for each of your modules, that staff in the school are making considerable additional efforts to provide an education and learning opportunities that will be no less academically rigorous or robust. Again this year, as in previous years, lecturers will be available for office hours each week. However, unlike in previous years, it will not be possible to simply drop by the office, rather each module coordinator will explain in the module outline how office hours will operate for that module.
I wish you all well and hope to see you soon,
Assoc. Prof. Iarfhlaith Watson
