Irish Research Council (IRC) call for the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme is now open


The UCD School of Sociology welcomes applications through the IRC GoI Postgrad Scholarship Scheme. Interested parties are encouraged to make contact with potential supervisors at the UCD School of Sociology to discuss their application and proposed research.

Overview of the Scheme

The IRC Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme offers support to suitably qualified individuals to pursue a Research Masters or PhD in any discipline at any eligible higher education institute in Ireland. The programme provides outstanding students with the opportunity to direct their own research project at the early-career stage working with a supervisor in their chosen area of interest.

A number of government departments and agencies are partnering with the Council to support this award.  The Council’s strategic funding partners for 2021 are:

•    The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
•    The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Irish Aid
•    The Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation (DBEI)
•    Met Éireann

The total value of the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship will be up to a maximum of €24,000. Applicants must create and submit their forms via the online system. The deadline for applications is Thursday 29th October at 16.00 (Irish time).  Full details of the scheme are available at
