Hollie Simmonds - BA Economics and Sociology ‘15
What are your strongest memories of UCD?
Strongest memories of UCD would have to be the fantastic group of life- long friends I made over the 3 years.
What first sparked your interest in Economics?
Economics has an impact on all walks of life. I wanted to learn specific skills and knowledge that I could then apply to my job and to my personal life.
What career path have you taken since graduating?
I have taken the career path of sales and marketing. I am currently working for Facebook as an SMB Account Manager for UK and Ireland.
How has your degree helped you along the way?
My Economics degree has certainly opened a lot of doors for me in terms of job prospects. It also allowed me to develop my studies further and achieve a MSc. in Marketing.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The thing that I enjoy most about my work is the role itself. I love learning new skills that give me the opportunity to grow and develop as a person each day.
What is your proudest achievement to date?
Proudest achievement to date would have to be smashing my target and fundraising over €3,827 for 100minds for Temple Street Foundation through an innovative idea of hosting a pop-up Masterchef restaurant for 2 nights.
What advice would you offer current students considering a similar career path?
Don't rush into the first job that comes your way just for the sake of it. Too many people go through life hating their jobs, never realizing their potential, and never following any of their dreams. Everything happens for a reason. So instead of living an unfilled life determine your future and love what you do!
