Teaching and Learning Awards

Congratulations to our three colleagues who have been awarded College of Social Sciences and Law Teaching Awards for their excellent teaching this year: Dr Graham Finlay, Prof Niamh Hardiman and Dr Aidan Regan.  ‌

Dr Graham Finlay

Graham teaches INRL10010 Foundation of Political Theory & International Relations and INRL30020, International Justice at undergraduate level, and POL41030 Theory of Human Rights at postgraduate.

In particular the panel noted “the versatility of Graham’s approaches to teaching in order to engage and motivate at many different levels (from Leaving Certificate to Graduate level modules). They also noted that he has made a sustained contribution to leadership in teaching and learning both nationally and internationally with an ongoing commitment to pastoral care of students”.

Prof Niamh Hardiman

At undergraduate Niamh teaches POL10160 Foundation of Contemporary Politics and POL30080, Irish Politics; and for postgraduate she teaches Policy POL40160 Comparative Public Policy and POL40540 Comparative European Politics.

The panel commented in particular on “Niamh’s articulation of an approach to teaching that inspires students to learn and her contributions to curriculum development that span first year through graduate study”.

Dr Aidan Regan

Aidan teaches POL20180 Capitalism and Democracy at undergraduate, and at postgraduate level POL41640 Research Design and Case Study, POL41650 Global Political Economy of Europe and POL41780 Capital in the 21st Century.

The panel commended “Aidan’s innovations in curriculum development and his passionate approach to your teaching. The panel also noted that he has demonstrated leadership in teaching and learning in a variety of ways, including the field trip to Europe”.
