UCD EU Field Trip to Brussels 2019
Masters students from SPIRe and the School of Law attended a field trip to Brussels last week to explore the world of EU Politics.
The field trip was started by Professor Imelda Maher and Dr Aidan Regan four years ago. The underlying aim of the field trip is to enable students to build an international career.
Students engaged with national and international policymakers and enhanced their knowledge and experience of how the European Union works.
The Masters students who attended are studying European Governance, European Public Affairs and Law, European Politics and Policy, and Political Economy and Public Policy.
The trip included talks from UCD alumni working in Brussels, NGOs and private companies, meetings with European Parliamentarians, European Commissioners, and a visit to the European Investment Bank. Students also attended an alumni reception with the Irish ambassador and the annual Saint Patrick’s Day reception in the European Parliament.
Dr Regan said the students benefit hugely, "it gives them an opportunity to see how the EU works in practice, whilst allowing them to develop relationships with a whole host of different people and organisations, both inside and outside the EU institutions".
