As the US Presidential and Congressional elections draw near, please join the Centre for Democracy Research for a special public event that will explore US elections from the inside.
Our first speaker will be Prof Biko Koenig, a political ethnographer currently at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. Biko immersed himself as a researcher in the 2020 Trump campaign for President, working as a full-time volunteer for the campaign in the swing state of Pennsylvania. In the 2024 election cycle, he has embedded himself in Progressive Victory, an organisation seeking to mobilise the Democrat youth vote in elections through online engagement. Biko will share with us his experiences of these election cycles, how to understand the MAGA movement and what conclusions he draws from his experiences about the present and future of electoral politics in the US.
Our second speaker will be Shane Greer, co-owner and co-publisher of the industry magazine for US political consultants, Campaigns and Elections, and founder of The Political Business Institute, a management consultancy for political firms. Shane’s bipartisan work in the world of political consulting gives him a unique vantage point on political strategy and how those running US election campaigns think. Shane will share with us what US election campaigns look like from an insider’s perspective, the extent to which this has changed over time, and what this means for the future of electoral politics in the US.
If you would like to attend this event, please register (opens in a new window)here by noon Friday, 18th October.
