The Athletics Club has produced more Olympians and World Championship competitors than any other UCD sports club.
Past club members include Olympian James Nolan, World Indoor champion Derval O’Rourke (100m hurdles), Irish Senior record holder David Matthews (800m) along with Olympians Joanne Cuddihy (400m), Ciara Everard (800m) and Ciara Mageean (1,500m).
Currently the club boasts a number of junior, under-23 and senior international representatives and now provides training and competition for all abilities and levels of participation. Teams regularly compete in Track & Field, Road Relay, Mountain Running and Cross Country Intervarsities, as well as the annual Colours event with Trinity. Training is provided for jumps, throws, sprints and distance athletes.
The club also includes a large group of beginners and fun runners with circuit sessions and meet & train groups organised each week. Members are also able to avail of Athletics Ireland coaching courses. UCD is delivering a world class athletics facility for the UCD community comprising of an eight-lane 400m IAAF synthetic track and a grass infield area suitable for athletics and multiple field sports. This is due to completed late 2020.
