This year UCD RFC held their annual dinner in O’Reilly Hall on April 26th and gladly welcomed Irish Rugby Head Coach Joe Schmidt as guest speaker for the event.
Representatives from all the teams within the club, alumni, Leinster Club Presidents, corporate supporters and friends accounted for more than 550 guests on the night.
Long standing UCD Rugby clubman David Carrigy of World Rugby assumed the role of master of ceremonies and introduced UCD Rugby President Ambrose O'Sullivan to begin the evening. He spoke at length about the commitment of club members who play a vital role in managing the various teams across the Men’s, Women’s and the Tag Rugby section of the club.

Amongst the many guests were members of the recent Irish Rugby U20 Grand Slam winning team. Michael Milne and Charlie Ryan were present on the night and were given a standing ovation as they displayed the 6 Nations trophy on stage. A special award was given to Brian Cawley for his 12 year playing career with the senior squad where he amassed over 200 games.

The showcase of the night involved clubman Billy Murphy acting as interviewer in an enthralling conversation with Joe Schmidt to conclude the formalities. Joe spoke with intent and captured the full attention of the guests as he outlined his time in Irish Rugby, his vision for the World Cup and moving home to New Zealand next year.
One of the major dates in the UCD Rugby calendar, the annual dinner again proved to be an enormous success and well done to the dinner committee and many volunteers for the effort in organising the event.
