Covid-19 Advice and Support

This page has been set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to highlight key resources on designing for blended and online learning and upcoming training/development opportunities for faculty and staff with teaching responsibilities.

Blended and Online Learning Design

In the blended and online learning design section you will find guidance on the different phases involved in designing and developing effective blended/online learning. The approach adopted draws on the ADDIE Instructional Design model, which defines five phases:

  1. Analysis
  2. Design
  3. Development
  4. Implementation
  5. Evaluation

Guidance on Online and In-Person Assessment Types

This practical resource is created to help you design and implement assessment in the online and in-person environments. It provides an overview of the key assessment types used in UCD, outlining what each can assess, their advantages and disadvantages, considerations for design and how faculty and staff can prepare and support students to complete them. Additional resources and literature on each assessment type are also signposted. For all assessment types specific advice is provided to support online assessment design, implementation and details of relevant tools and technologies. 

UCD Educational Technologies

Guidance on using the Virtual Classroom (Zoom), Pre-recorded Lectures and Screencasts and other educational technologies is available on the UCD Educational Technologies page.  There is also a section containing Brightspace Guides, pedagogically focused guides on teaching, learning and assessment.

The Teaching and Learning team offered a series of webinars to support faculty prepare for blended and online learning and assessment. Recordings of all webinars are available as follows;

TEL All Talks 2021 - Technology Enhanced Learning for All

The TEL All Talks are practice exchange TEL talks led by faculty. The 2021 event was themed: Insight by Hindsight, which aimed to provide an opportunity for faculty across UCD to share their experiences of teaching and assessing online. This event also included a student panel where we heard directly from students about their experiences of learning online. Recordings of all the TEL All Practice Exchange Talks and sessions are available to UCD Staff via the event via the TEL All webpage
