The CELT network will contribute to the professional development of all those who teach by sharing learning and cross-pollinating ideas across and within disciplines in the University, in order to engage students with the community.
UCD’s community of staff and students has supported the Homeless Period Ireland initiative since March 2018, when donation points were initiated. Since then, a large number of regular donations and special collection drives (2,300 packets and counting) have taken place, and visibility, awareness campaigns and discussions in classrooms have taken place.
The UCD Institute for Discovery, with generously acknowledged support from UCD in the Community, launched a brand new "cultivating community" initiative called 'The Intergenerational Jigsaw Club' in April 2018. The club takes place every Friday, all welcome!
The Patient Voice in Arthritis Research is an initiative run by the UCD Centre for Arthritis Research and led by Dr. Emma Dorris. Their aim is to make our research more relevant by working directly with people living with arthritis and rheumatic diseases.
UCD in the Community were recently invited to visit UCD Purl Jam; a knitting/creative group established by Catriona Keane (Science student adviser) and Niamh Nestor (Vet student adviser), open to students and staff.
Evolving from a long-standing collaboration between UCD Sport and UCD Physiotherapy. the Physio Hub was founded in 2015 by Dr Caitriona Cunningham, Dr Catherine Blake and Dr Sinead McMahon. Here, physiotherapists, supported by students, address the health needs of the local and wider community, promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles via community exercise and health promotion programmes.
