Shauna O'Brien

Shauna O'BrienShauna O'Brien graduated from UCD with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (MVB) in 2017, and moved to Ontario, Canada shortly after. She worked as a mixed animal associate in a semirural practice, caring for a variety of species, from 49g sugar gliders to 700kg Holsteins. Her ability to "just give it a go" stems from the solid foundations she built at UCD.

In 2020, Shauna was awarded the OVMA Rising Star Award for demonstrating leadership in the practice and community, and advocating for the welfare of patients and staff alike. Shauna spent a busy spring locuming in Fermanagh in 2021, learning new skills and sharing techniques with her colleagues.

Since graduating, Shauna has acted as an Alumni Ambassador for prospective students interested in studying Veterinary Medicine at UCD, and she also enjoys offering mentorship to students who come through her practices.

Shauna is currently back in Ontario working in mixed practice, where she is the volunteer vet for the Wye Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, a first responder for the Turtle Conservation Centre, and on the Board of Directors for the region's Veterinary Association, providing CE for veterinarians in the surrounding counties.
